I’m not a huge fan of rally games, but this one is pretty great and unlike pretty much every other mobile racing game, it’s an actual full game that isn’t filled with in-app purchases and terrible freemium elements, which is why I wanted to write a little thing about it, because I haven't played a fun mobile racing game since Real Racing 2, which came out in, like, 2010.

There aren’t any licensed cars, but there are eight unlockable cars modeled after historical and modern rally cars. None of this really matters, though, because the third car you unlock is an MG Metro 6R4.

The game has four modes—A championship mode in different countries with 6 stages per country, a time trial mode, a rally cross against AI competitors (three racers with six stages each, I think), and a “skill games” mode where you play minigames like running through a stage while dodging missiles.

Not pictured: dodging a missile.

The best part of the game by far, however, is that it has the most complex tuning system that I’ve ever seen on a mobile game, allowing you to change everything from ride height and spoiler angle to front and rear rebound dampening. The game really encourages you to tune your car for each stage.

The controls are pretty good for a mobile game, with on screen buttons allowing for pretty smooth turning and control, although I find it’s easier to just make the car prone to oversteer rather than bother with the e-brake.

The game is pretty challenging on normal, at least for me, and most of my wins are about 1 second ahead of the next fastest, which means that slight screw ups can easily cost you. There’s also a persistent damage feature across rallies with partial repairs only allowed every two stages, which means you can really screw yourself if you damage your car early on.

The game is available on Apple and Android. I’m not sure what it costs on Android, but it’s $3.99 on the App Store, which I think is really fair considering that it’s a full and pretty long game.

I’ll give it a whirl, I can just refund it a few hours after if I don’t like it.

I'm so jealous of Android users and their refunds.

It’s available for an hour or two after you purchase, but yeah it’s pretty neat.

I haven’t tried it, and I wouldn’t, but I wonder if we could just copy the app files and then refund the app lol.
